Alessandro Lupi will present a permanent installation at the Trubar Literary House

	This year, Ljubljana will open the door of its literature house named after Primož Trubar, thus joining a number of European cities, such as Munich, Vienna, Hamburg, Salzburg, Cologne and Copenhagen, where these kinds of public institutions have already been operating for many years. The Trubar Literature House will be a centrally-located (2, Ribji trg / Fish Market Square) public space dedicated to literature and the book, where numerous events organised throughout the year will significantly contribute to the vibrant culturally-coloured city beat. The mission of the Trubar Literature House is to become the reference point for literature, the book and socio-critical reflection in the broader sense of the word. As a open space, members of different literary and intellectual groups pertaining to a variety of world views will here be able to exchange their opinions on cultural and societal issues of our time. The Literature House will offer programmes bringing together literary and artistic, as well as critical and reflexive aspects.

The literary and artistic programme will provide for literary events, festivals, readings, book presentations, creative workshops and visits of foreign writers and poets. Apart from well-established literary events, such as literary evenings, this public institution will promote innovative approaches combining literature with music, fine arts, puppet theatre and other artistic expressions. The Literature House will also provide support for projects promoting reading culture through the use of new technologies, such as the Internet, electronic books and blogs. The Trubar Literature House will thus bring together writers, poets, authors and artists of different profiles and with a variety of creative approaches. There will be a special programme dedicated to cultural education promoting reading culture and literary, as well as media and information literacy among the young population.

Critical reflection on literature, culture and society is particularly needed when the media are influenced by the increasing pressure of commercialisation, coupled with a tabloidization and trivialisation of cultural and media content. The Trubar Literature House will, therefore, give the floor to the public, to theoreticians, critics and intellectuals, particularly those pertaining to younger generations, so that they can express their views on the changing cultural and social reality.

There will be morning, afternoon and evening programmes. In the morning, the Literature House will function as a reading room (with a variety of professional journals and newspapers). During this time, it will be open to school visits, with students benefiting from a guided tour of an installation dedicated to Primož Trubar and a multimedia video presentation of Primož Trubar’s time of residence in Ljubljana. The afternoon programme will be a combination of workshops and gatherings of programme groups, while the evening programme will be dedicated to projects aimed at the general public.

The programme will be carried out by programme groups and will be divided into prose, poetry, theory, a children’s programme, etc. These programme groups will be established through an invitation to the public and through direct invitations to established authors, intellectuals and educators. Apart from the selected programme groups, a variety of providers (publishing houses, cultural societies, literary groups, etc.) will be given the possibility to present their literary creations and organise workshops and round tables, as well as to promote their activities.

The Trubar Literature House will become the headquarters of a new book club, a web portal on literature and the book and an exhibition space.

Members of the book club, organised in various groups and sections, will be responsible for the programmes. A non-commercial web portal will report on all of the events with multimedia content, as well as offering expert reviews, critiques, theoretical views, critical articles, etc. Writers and poets, especially those belonging to the younger generation, will here be given the opportunity to present their creations to the broader public. The Trubar Literature House will provide free access to a selection of electronic books for which copyright will have been purchased. Registered visitors to the web portal will have the possibility to co-create online content, such as blogs and commentaries. The Literature House will be equipped with free wireless Internet access. The gallery will host occasional exhibitions and installations. During the Ljubljana World Book Capital Year, the Trubar Literature House will also function as an information centre hosting many promotional and other events, such as press conferences and talks.

With this first literature house in Slovenia, Trubar’s legacy will finally be protected, while at the same time being made available to the public. The diversity and innovativeness of the programmes, aimed at various societal groups and all generations, represent the foundation needed for the attainment of a most ambitious goal: to turn the Trubar Literature House into the centre of Ljubljana literary, cultural and intellectual activities.

Trubar Literature House will open its doors on 2 September 2010.

Guidi&Schoen Arte Contemporanea

ROMA – The Road to Contemporary Art apre la primavera romana dell’arte contemporanea presentando 67 gallerie nazionali ed internazionali dal 27 al 30 maggio. Nuova ed unica sede per la terza edizione di ROMA è lo spazio al MACRO Testaccio: la fiera è allestita nei due padiglioni del MACRO Future e nel suggestivo e appena restaurato Padiglione della Pelanda, che, con le sue vasche e caldaie, conserva le affascinanti tracce della sua originaria destinazione.
Gli spazi esterni, antistanti i padiglioni, ospiteranno opere d’arte di grandi dimensioni, nonché un bar, un ristorante, una lounge ed un’area dedicata agli incontri, performances e dj-sets. Grazie ad un’atmosfera piacevole e rilassante gli spazi interni ed esterni della fiera diventeranno luogo di ritrovo e di attrazione per il pubblico di ogni genere.
ROMA sarà aperta tutti i giorni dalle ore 16.00 sino alle 24.00, domenica dalle 11.00 alle 20.00.

Ljubljana UNESCO World Book Capital

Dal 23 aprile 2010 al 23 aprile 2011, Lubiana, la capitale della Slovenia, sarà la Capitale Mondiale del Libro dell’UNESCO.

In questa specifica occasione la città di Lubiana mi ha commissionato un’opera che sarà installata permanente nel nuovo spazio centrale di tutti gli eventi : la “trubarjeva hisa literature” Trubar’s House of Literature che inaugurerà a settembre 2010 .

A Lubiana sono in Programma più di 200 eventi: dalla letteratura, dal dialogo multiculturale, l’Arte la cultura del leggere.È da evidenziare il Festival delle letterature dei continenti del mondo, con la partecipazione di autori provenienti da tutti i continenti, ed il congresso mondiale intitolato Libri come motore dello sviluppo dell’umanità, al quale parteciperanno noti esperti e ricercatori.

B/N è un lavoro incentrato sulla percezione e sulla costruzione delle immagini all’interno del cervello dello spettatore.
In questa opera la dimensione cinetica serve per costruire, giro dopo giro nell’immaginazione dello spettatore, la forma il corpo e la presenza nello spazio ma anche la materia astratta che la compone.
In questo allestimento ho studiato due pareti una bianca e una nera che permettono la percezione opposta della stessa, (vuoto/pieno).
L’uso del bianco e del nero permettono una visione soggettiva, che in alcuni casi può far percepire dei colori.
Anche la variazione della luce è importante, la luce del sole la luce artificiale rendono l’opera sempre diversa.

In quest’ultimo periodo, sto studiando molto lo sviluppo di nuove idee concentrandomi sullo spazio pubblico come contentitore e come intelocutore.

Inoltre sto preparando per la fine di gennaio i lavori che andranno al Bologna Art First con la galleria Guidi&Schoen Arte Contemporanea.

Belgrade of Light

Sono stato invitato al Belgrade of Light
che si terrà dal 10 al 17 settembre 2009.

A new and unique cultural happening in Serbia. It is a festival dedicated to light, a platform for creative innovations, experiments, artistic and professional discussions and idea exchange on the subject of lighting. The festival’s goal is to gather extinguished individuals from all around the world in Belgrade and Serbia and to open up a completely new perspective in treating the light – whether it concerns an artistic expression and design, energy saving or simply identity of a city and visions of a brighter future.

Already in the first year, Belgrade is proudly entering a shiny web of festivals that exist in the world and that have been nourishing this tradition for a long time. Among them are Lyon, Tallinn, Helsinki, Lisbon, Eindhoven, etc.
Through artistic interventions in space, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, in the first five days of this year’s exhibition, Belgrade of Light will open up a completely new experience and present a different image of the city.
The festival is initiated by Aleksandra Stratimirovic and organised by Cultural Front Belgrade, with the help of Belgrade Lighting Detectives and in cooperation with all leading Serbian companies and institutions that are dealing with lighting.

This year, the festival is introducing us to international group “Transnational Lighting Detectives”. Founding members of this group will gather in Belgrade and hold their annual symposium on the subject of lighting identity of a city. The workshop will take place for students of Belgrade University who will, together with the guests from Stockholm Lighting Laboratory and members of Tokyo Art Academy study Belgrade through the eyes of “lighting detectives”, mentored by well known world lighting designers. As an introduction to what is waiting for us in years to come, the exhibitions and presentations of the partner festivals “Superflux” from Lyon, “Hansaflux” from Tallinn and “Svetlobna gverila” from Ljubljana will be held.

“Albero” was realized for the Freeshout Festival in Prato, Italy. I reconstructed a 6 m. dead tree inside a big space that generated a fake shadow of itself alive, with leaves.
For this, I have studied the behavior of light and shadow, calculating the focal lengths based on the departing point of light. In this work space and light evoke a contradiction in terms of time: past and future, life and death. For the occasion I also made a final performance in which I cut the tree with a power saw.

Durante il festival Freeshout di Prato ho realizzato un’ idea maturata nel corso degli ultimi due anni.

Un albero di 6 metri secco è stato ricostruto all’interno dello spazio, con il quale ho generato un ombra che include anche le foglie.

In questo lavoro indago sul concetto di tempo-spazio vita-morte, attraverso il medium della luce.

Lavoro concepito dalla volonta di aprire una nuova ricerca sul rapporto tra spazio e tempo.
Il mio tentativo è di indagare sul concetto di partenza e di punto di arrivo concentrandomi sullo stato di sospensione e di equilibrio.
Ragionando sul tempo nell’immaginazione il presente è il punto di equilibrio tra passato e futuro,
Senza la visione di per se astratta di passato e futuro il presente (di cui raramente siamo coscenti ) forse non sarebbe cosi dinamico.

Invitato come ospite speciale per il freeshout ‘09 con un nuovo lavoro
svolto i primi di ottobre 2009 a Prato.
Nato dalla collaborazione fra l’Equipe Creativa FREeS.CO e l’Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Prato, FREeSHOUT!? raccoglie le tendenze della creatività contemporanea: in esso confluiscono i percorsi di artisti di ogni parte d’Europa e non solo, e vengono messe a confronto le idee. Designers, illustratori, fotografi, musicisti, dj, videoartisti, cuochi, scrittori, scultori: le infinite realtà dell’arte e dell’espressione creativa in un evento che affianca performance ad esposizioni ad incontri.
